The University of Connecticut’s Storrs campus has renamed its Engineering Building to the Pratt & Whitney Engineering Building in honor of the company’s merger with Raytheon Technologies. The building, which originally opened in 1986 with a $1.5 million investment from United Technologies, now bears the name of its successor company.
The renaming ceremony on Friday marked a new era of collaboration and innovation between UConn and Pratt & Whitney. UConn President Radenka Maric emphasized the importance of the aerospace industry in Connecticut and recognized Pratt & Whitney as one of the state’s leading aerospace companies.
Pratt & Whitney has continued to support the UConn College of Engineering through the Pratt & Whitney Scholars Program, a $1.25 million investment aimed at supporting underrepresented minorities in engineering. The program reflects the company’s commitment to fostering talent and research within the field.
According to UConn, approximately 65% of engineers in Connecticut are UConn graduates. The high demand for engineers in the state has driven the university’s growth in engineering programs. The renaming of the Engineering Building to the Pratt & Whitney Engineering Building symbolizes the enduring partnership between UConn and Pratt & Whitney, which has been built on research and talent development for decades.
