Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the previous Congress government in Chhattisgarh, led by Bhupesh Baghel, accusing it of neglecting the fight against Naxalism in the tribal-dominated state.
Speaking at an election rally in Kanker, Shah asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has effectively eliminated terrorism and Naxalism in India. He contrasted this with the alleged inaction of the Baghel government, which he claimed had done nothing to curb Naxalism during its five years in power.
In contrast, Shah highlighted the achievements of the current BJP government, stating that in just four months, over 90 Naxalites have been eliminated, 123 arrested, and 250 have surrendered. He attributed this success to Modi’s commitment to combating Naxalism nationwide, citing examples from states such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh.
Shah urged the people to re-elect Modi for a third term, promising that he would eradicate Naxalism from Chhattisgarh within two years. He emphasized the negative impact of Naxalism on tribal communities, hindering their access to electricity and fair price shops.
Shah’s remarks come days after a major encounter in Kanker, where 29 Naxals were killed by security forces. During the rally, he also referred to Prime Minister Modi’s speech, which highlighted the Congress manifesto’s proposal to survey citizens’ properties. Shah questioned the Congress and Rahul Gandhi on the validity of this proposal and raised concerns about the party’s alleged intention to divert resources from temples and the nation towards minorities.
Shah emphasized the BJP’s commitment to prioritizing the rights of the poor, tribes, Dalits, and backward classes over resources.
