Aakash Chopra, a former Indian batter, has expressed concerns about Mumbai Indians’ (MI) bowling ahead of their crucial match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 22. Chopra criticized MI’s poor bowling performance in the ongoing IPL 2024 season, noting that Jasprit Bumrah has been the only consistent performer for the five-time IPL champions.
Under their new captain Hardik Pandya, MI has had a mixed start to the season, winning only 3 of their 7 matches. While their batting unit has performed well, their bowling has often let them down. Apart from Bumrah and Gerarld Coetzee, most of MI’s bowlers have struggled, particularly in the death overs.
Chopra criticized MI’s team selection, saying, “They have decided that they will play cricket with nine people, which is beyond my understanding.” He questioned the role of Mohammad Nabi, who has not been utilized as a bowler or batsman effectively.
“If you are not going to bowl him, think of someone else. Romario Shepherd’s bowling is not working. If that’s the case, are you playing him also for batting? Look within a little. You just got saved by the skin of your teeth in the last match. Your bowling is looking extremely ordinary barring Jasprit Bumrah,” Chopra added.
MI will face RR in Jaipur, hoping to extend their winning streak and keep their playoff hopes alive after a disappointing start to the tournament.
