Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli has been fined 50% of his match fees for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during Sunday’s game against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Kohli was involved in a heated argument with the on-field umpire after being adjudged out to a delivery from Harshit Rana. Kohli believed the ball was a waist-high no-ball.
The decision was reviewed but the umpires determined that the ball would have passed below Kohli’s waist, even with the dip it took. Kohli disagreed and showed his frustration by arguing with the umpire.
As per Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, showing dissent at an umpire’s decision is a Level 1 offense. Kohli admitted to the offense and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct result in a final and binding decision from the Match Referee.
RCB is currently sitting at the bottom of the 10-team points table and will next play away against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday.
