Brian Lara feels that RCB star Virat Kohli needs to accept his dismissal during the KKR clash and didn’t see any issue with the delivery.
Kohli’s dismissal was one of the main talking points in the match as the RCB star was dismissed off a slow beamer by Harshit Rana, that dipped on him. The third umpire would rule in favor of KKR in the end.
Kohli was irate with the call and was given a fine of 50 percent of his match fee for lashing out at the umpires.
Lara, while talking to Star Sports, went on to say that Kohli needs to accept the call. The West Indies legend said that he didn’t see any issue with the delivery and it was a legitimate one.
“He has to accept it. Obviously, he was a bit enraged by the situation and it happens. People react, but for me it’s a situation with a slow ball. It’s the direction of the ball suggested that it was going to go down and we have created that rule. We’ve decided that anything about the waist and continues above the wave past the batter is a no-ball, and in the umpires and technology view that is legitimate ball and I may not agree with. I think a beamer is something that is dangerous could injure a player. I don’t think that this is one. This is a slow ball that lost its trajectory as the ball got slow and slow,” said Lara.
According to rule 41.7 of ICC regulations ‘Bowling of dangerous and unfair non-pitching deliveries’ : Any delivery, which passes or would have passed, without pitching, above waist height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease, is to be deemed to be unfair, whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker. If the bowler bowls such a delivery the umpire shall immediately call and signal No ball.
This was why Kohli was given out and the technology would also support the call made by the third umpire.
Kohli and RCB will next be in action against SRH on April 25.
