On Sunday, Meri Brown, known for her role in the reality show ‘Sister Wives,’ shared a thoughtful message online to mark the 34th anniversary of her former wedding to Kody Brown. Despite their separation earlier this year, Meri chose to pay tribute to the occasion.
“After contemplation, I’ve decided to address today,” Meri captioned a photo of herself with her dog, Zona. “Thirty-four years ago today, I was married, marking the genesis of a family that has captured the interest of many.” Acknowledging the polarizing nature of their family dynamic, Meri expressed her gratitude for the experiences and lessons she has gained.
Meri reflected on her initial perception of divorce as a failure. However, she has since reframed her perspective, acknowledging the transformative growth and understanding gained from her marital journey.
The date holds sentimental significance for Meri, who noted that it always brings about a moment of remembrance. She emphasized that her reflections are not tinged with bitterness, anger, sadness, or grief, but simply a recognition of her life experiences.
As Kody’s first wife, Meri legally married him in 1990. They welcomed one biological child together, Leon Brown. In 2014, Kody legally divorced Meri to marry Robyn Brown, allowing him to adopt her children from a previous marriage. Meri maintained a spiritual marriage to Kody until 2023, when they confirmed the final end of their relationship.
A significant turning point in Meri’s decision to leave her marriage was captured on camera during the recent season of ‘Sister Wives.’ In an October 2023 episode, Meri revealed that Kody had not acknowledged their anniversary. An ensuing conversation led to a realization for Meri: “He goes, ‘We’re not meh,’ and then he goes, ‘but we’re not living as a married couple.’ I felt like in that moment he stopped himself from saying, ‘Well, we’re not married.'”
The former couple ultimately decided to end their marriage on camera during the season finale of the show. Robyn Brown remains Kody’s only wife, and the father of 18 has stated that he no longer practices polygamy or intends to add another wife to the family.
Following her split from Kody, Meri embarked on a brief romantic relationship with Amos in 2024, which ended after four months. Despite this setback, Meri maintains a positive outlook and a focus on her personal growth and journey.
