President Biden spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday, reaffirming the United States’ commitment to providing more aid. Biden emphasized the importance of the Senate’s swift passage of the national security package, stating that it would enable the administration to quickly deliver significant new security assistance to meet Ukraine’s urgent battlefield and air defense needs.
The president also discussed economic assistance aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s financial stability and supporting its path toward Euro-Atlantic integration. He highlighted the need for sustained international support to help Ukraine in its fight for freedom.
Meanwhile, President Biden held a separate call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who congratulated him on the House passage of the national security supplemental. The two leaders discussed the critical role of international cooperation in supporting Ukraine’s defense efforts.
The Senate is expected to vote on Tuesday on a $95 billion foreign aid package, which includes $61 billion for Ukraine. The package has already received bipartisan support in the Senate, with 22 Republicans voting for it during its initial passage in February.
