As Coolmore maestro Aidan O’Brien prepares his charge, City of Troy, for the Qipco 2000 Guineas next Saturday, the juvenile sensation is set for the ‘toughest week of work’ he has faced to date.
O’Brien, upon being interviewed this morning at the gallops, stated that everything has been ‘perfect’ so far and expressed his contentment. However, he acknowledges the importance of this week in the lead-up to the Guineas.
City of Troy, who has emerged as a formidable contender since his triumph at last season’s Dewhurst, will have to prove his mettle against the likes of Haatem, Eben Shaddad, Alyanaabi, and Iberian, who all participated in the Craven Stakes.
O’Brien further hinted at City of Troy’s potential to compete in the Triple Crown races: the 1000 Guineas, Derby, and St Leger. Additionally, he mentioned the possibility of the horse participating in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on American dirt tracks.
Meanwhile, O’Brien expressed his opinion that Ylang Ylang, despite being a strong contender for the 1000 Guineas, might be better suited to the Oaks in the future. Ylang Ylang has been absent from the track since her victory over Shuwari in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket in October.
While City of Troy and Ylang Ylang dominate the headlines, Willie Mullins secured the title of champion trainer in Britain for the first time. Despite receiving an advantage from Nicky Henderson’s Cheltenham absence, Mullins’ remarkable achievements, including his victories in Scotland, showcase his exceptional skills as a trainer.
