Amidst a challenging time for the Texas-based automaker, with a 40 percent year-to-date stock decline, expected 40 percent profit drop, and over 20,000 job cuts, Tesla’s flagship Cybertruck has faced another setback. The Cybertruck, which has already undergone a recall, has now experienced an issue with its windshield-mounted gear selector panel falling off.
Tesla has implemented a touchscreen-based gear selector system, but for safety reasons, a backup physical panel is present in the middle of the windshield. However, the durability of this panel has come into question after a Cybertruck owner reported that it detached after a windshield replacement.
Former Tesla engineer Christina Balan shared photos of the issue, highlighting that the constant use of sun visors, which attach to the same panel, could put strain on the mounting points. She emphasized the need for a complete redesign of the center console and attachment points.
It remains to be seen whether this issue will become more prevalent or if it is an isolated incident. Additionally, given the company’s current challenges, the board’s response to this design flaw is uncertain.
