West Ham United is reportedly evaluating several managerial candidates in case David Moyes departs at the conclusion of the season. Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui are among those under consideration. Following West Ham’s 5-2 loss to Crystal Palace, rumors about Moyes’ future have intensified. His contract expires this summer, and he has yet to make a public decision about his future. West Ham is assessing Amorim and Lopetegui as part of their due diligence. A move for Amorim would be significant given his status as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and his connection to the Bayern Munich post. Sporting is on track to win the Portuguese league this season under his direction, sitting 10 points clear of Benfica at the top and reaching the Portuguese Cup final. Lopetegui, who previously managed Spain, Real Madrid, and Sevilla, is another candidate under consideration. Given that he left Wolves just three days before the start of the Premier League season in August, interested parties would not be required to negotiate with another club for his services, unlike the contracted Amorim. Ruben Amorim has long been expected to be in high demand, having guided Sporting to the title in 2021 at the age of 36. His ability as a coach is further highlighted by his potential to repeat the feat in 2024. Sporting recognized his unique talent early on, famously paying a substantial release clause after his exceptional start at Braga. They gambled on his tactical acumen, unwavering commitment as a player, and, most importantly, his charismatic leadership.
