Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has decided to hang up his cleats after 15 seasons in the NFL. The Falcons legend made the announcement in a video posted to the team’s social media accounts.
Ryan was selected by the Falcons with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He quickly became a star in Atlanta, leading the team to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1998 in 2016. That season, Ryan earned NFL MVP and All-Pro honors.
Ryan made the Pro Bowl four times as a member of the Falcons and was a key part of the team’s success during his tenure. However, he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2022 after the Falcons decided to rebuild. Ryan played one season with the Colts before being released in March 2023. He did not find employment for the 2023 season and has now decided to retire.
Ryan’s retirement is a sad day for Falcons fans, but it is also a time to celebrate his incredible career. He is one of the most successful quarterbacks in Falcons history and will be remembered as one of the best to ever play the game.
