Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s Residence Broken Into
A Los Angeles man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into the home of Mayor Karen Bass while people were present. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the suspect, Ephraim Matthew Hunter, entered the Getty House through a smashed window.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Hunter broke a window around 6:40 a.m. to gain entry into the Getty House, Bass’s official residence on Irving Boulevard. Police responded and took Hunter into custody without incident. He was booked on accusations of burglary.
Both Bass’s office and police confirmed that no injuries were reported in the alleged break-in. In a statement released on Sunday, Bass’s office said, “This morning at about 6:40 AM, an intruder broke into Getty House through a window. Mayor Bass and her family were not injured and are safe. The Mayor is grateful to LAPD for responding and arresting the suspect.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and police declined to provide additional details on a potential motive. Bass became Los Angeles’s in 2022, after previously serving more than a decade in the U.S. House.
