Suspect Arrested After Break-In at LA Mayor Karen Bass’ Residence

Los Angeles police have arrested a suspect in connection with a break-in at Mayor Karen Bass’ official residence early Sunday morning. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Ephraim Matthew Hunter, smashed a window to gain entry to Getty House while it was occupied.

Mayor Bass and her family were not injured during the incident. In a statement, her office expressed gratitude to the LAPD for their prompt response and the arrest of the suspect.

Hunter is currently being held on $100,000 bail at the Los Angeles County Jail. It is unclear whether he has retained an attorney.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has been contacted by LAPD investigators to review the investigation.

Mayor Bass is the first woman and second Black person to hold the position of Mayor of Los Angeles. She served as a Democratic member of Congress from 2011 until her election as the city’s 43rd mayor in 2022.
