Maxwell Anderson, the suspect charged with the killing and dismemberment of Sade Robinson, a teenager from Milwaukee, entered a not guilty plea in court on Monday. Robinson went missing after informing friends she was meeting a man named Anderson for a date.
Prosecutors allege that Robinson met with Anderson, 33, at a Milwaukee seafood restaurant on April 1st. She is believed to have sent a Snapchat message to friends from a nearby bar. The following day, police found a severed leg at Warnimont Park. Robinson’s friends traced her location to the area in the early hours of April 2nd.
During Monday’s hearing, Anderson appeared in court wearing a prison-issued jumpsuit. He confirmed that he understood his right to waive the preliminary hearing. His lawyer entered the not-guilty plea. Anderson’s attorney requested a change of judge, which the court granted. Anderson is scheduled to return to court on May 16th for a scheduling hearing.
Police arrested Anderson on April 4th and charged him with first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, and arson in connection with Robinson’s death. Investigators have been searching for additional human remains and the investigation is ongoing. On Thursday, authorities discovered a torso and arm along a remote stretch of beach on Lake Michigan. They are working to determine if the remains belong to Robinson.
Anderson’s father, Steven Anderson, expressed sympathy for Robinson’s family in a statement released last week. He stated that his family is shocked and devastated by the tragedy. Maxwell Anderson is being held on a $5 million bond.
