Erika de Souza, 42, was captured on security footage pushing the wheelchair of her uncle, 68-year-old Paulo Braga, shortly before he was pronounced dead last Tuesday. The footage, which is not being published by the Mirror, shows de Souza standing next to her uncle before entering the women’s restroom.
An employee of the bank approached Braga to support his head after it fell backward. De Souza then returned with a cup of water, ostensibly for her deceased relative.
Following this bizarre incident, she approached the desk of another bank employee and allegedly attempted to have the deceased body sign a $3,250 (£2,631) loan document.
De Souza was detained after bringing her deceased uncle to a bank and attempting to have him sign for a loan.
According to reports, officials are investigating the possibility that de Souza was not acting alone and may have had accomplices. They are reviewing CCTV footage from inside and outside the bank to determine if this was the case.
The results of a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death have yet to be released.
