Sovereign Metals Ltd (ASX: SVM) bolsters its development team ahead of the Kasiya Rutile-Graphite Project in Malawi with the appointment of Dr. Surinder Ghag as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) – Graphite.
Dr. Ghag, an experienced metallurgist, will assist Sovereign’s graphite strategy in qualifying graphite products from Kasiya for lithium-ion battery anodes.
This move reflects Sovereign’s aim to become a leader in natural flake graphite production, a significant by-product of the Kasiya Project.
Dr. Ghag brings 25 years of industry experience, including developing graphite test work programs and project development, to Sovereign.
He recently played a key role in developing an environmentally friendly graphite purification method with CSIRO, the Australian Government’s scientific research entity.
Dr. Ghag will be responsible for designing and delivering graphite downstream test work programs aligned with product development and qualification.
Sovereign continues discussions with battery anode processors, end-users, and potential offtake partners.
Initial test work on Kasiya graphite indicates high purity and crystallinity, making it suitable for lithium-ion batteries.
Additional test work is underway to validate key parameters at scale, and Sovereign is undertaking a graphite bulk sampling program to support discussions with potential offtake partners.
