Detroit Tigers’ Tarik Skubal put on a clinic on Monday night, striking out nine Rays’ batters over six shutout innings. The left-hander continues to impress, extending his winning streak to seven games dating back to last September.
Mark Canha kicked off the scoring early with a solo homer in the first inning. Javier Báez chipped in an RBI single in the second, and Canha added another run-scoring hit in the fifth. Parker Meadows provided a solo shot in the sixth, giving the Tigers a comfortable 6-0 lead.
Tampa Bay’s offense had little to show for itself against Skubal, who scattered just three hits and allowed only one runner to reach second base. The Rays finally got on the board with a solo homer from José Caballero in the eighth, but it wasn’t enough to challenge the Tigers’ dominance.
Tigers’ starter Zack Littell gave up six runs (five earned) over six innings, while the Rays’ ace Randy Arozarena continued to struggle at the plate, dropping his average to a meager .149.
With this victory, the Tigers improve to 9-3 on the road this season. They will look to continue their winning ways when Kenta Maeda takes the mound against Ryan Pepiot of the Rays on Tuesday night.
