In an exercise overseen by leader Kim Jong Un, North Korea conducted its first drills simulating a nuclear counterattack under its “nuclear trigger” management system, state-run media reported on Tuesday. These drills, held on Monday and involving the North’s “super-large multiple rocket units,” aimed to significantly bolster the quick counterattack capability of the state nuclear force as part of the country’s haekbangashoe, or “nuclear trigger,” combined management system, according to the official Korean Central News Agency. KCNA emphasized that the exercise aimed to showcase the dependability, superiority, and diverse capabilities of the DPRK’s nuclear force, reinforcing it qualitatively and quantitatively. Amid combined U.S.-South Korean military drills involving air forces, the exercise was seen as a clear cautionary message to adversaries.
