White Sox Fall to 3-19 in Worst Start in Franchise History

The Chicago White Sox continued their abysmal start to the 2024 season on Monday, falling to the Minnesota Twins 7-0 at Target Field. The Sox managed just eight hits in the game and were shut out for the eighth time in their first 22 games – the most in American League/National League history.

Starting pitcher Jonathan Cannon struggled, allowing six runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings. The Sox bullpen also failed to provide much support, with reliever Paul DeJong surrendering a home run in the eighth inning.

Sox manager Pedro Grifol was ejected in the eighth inning after arguing with home plate umpire Mike Estabrook. Right fielder Gavin Sheets was also ejected after striking out looking.

The loss dropped the Sox to 3-19, the worst start in franchise history. Grifol said after the game that the team needs to stay positive and focus on making adjustments.

“Today we got our ass kicked,” Grifol said. “You go home and you reflect and tomorrow is a new day. You can only learn from today and then tomorrow you start the day and that’s it. This day is over.”

The Sox will look to snap their losing streak on Tuesday when they face the Twins again in Minneapolis.
