Thousands of devotees participated in the car festival on Monday, which marked the 11th day of the popular annual Chithirai festival in Madurai.
Amidst the chants of spiritual slogans, the chariots carrying Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar (Lord Shiva) were ceremoniously taken through the Masi streets, before being brought back to the temple premises.
True to its reputation as Thoonga Nagaram (the city that never sleeps), Madurai remained abuzz with activity throughout the night, as devotees eagerly anticipated Lord Kallazhagar’s entry into the Vaigai River, a key part of the Chithirai festival celebrations.
