Recently, a video clip of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi speaking at a public event has been widely shared on social media platforms. In the clip, Gandhi is heard saying, “Our youth that is roaming around the streets, using Instagram and Facebook, their bank accounts will be credited with, yearly with one lakh rupees and 8,500 rupees a month.”
However, this claim is based on a misleading edit of Gandhi’s speech. In the full video, Gandhi was actually talking about the Congress party’s ‘Right to Apprenticeship’ scheme, which is aimed at providing one-year apprenticeships to diploma and college graduates under the age of 25. The program includes an annual stipend of one lakh rupees for participants.
The clipped video has been shared by several users on Twitter, including BJP’s Head of Social Media, Richa Rajpoot. As of this writing, the post has recorded over 1.1 million views.
The ‘Right to Apprenticeship’ scheme is mentioned in the Congress party’s 2024 Lok Sabha election manifesto. According to the manifesto, the program will offer a one-year apprenticeship with a private or public sector company to every individual holding a diploma or college degree and under the age of 25. During this period, participants will receive an annual stipend of one lakh rupees.
Gandhi’s comments about the scheme were made in response to the high unemployment rate in India. He pointed out that Narendra Modi’s policies have destroyed employment opportunities and that many young people are now unemployed and using social media to pass the time.
The ‘Right to Apprenticeship’ scheme is designed to address this issue by providing unemployed youth with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and training. The program will also help to create a more skilled workforce, which will benefit the Indian economy in the long run.
It is important to note that the clipped video of Rahul Gandhi’s speech has been misleadingly edited to make it appear that he is promising to give money to unemployed youth who spend time on social media. In reality, the ‘Right to Apprenticeship’ scheme is a much more comprehensive program that is aimed at addressing the issue of youth unemployment in India.
