Mullins’ dominance has been overwhelming, and despite the season still in progress, his lead of £180,000 over Dan Skelton is seen as insurmountable. The Irish trainer’s all-out assault on British races this week, particularly the Sandown finale, is expected to seal his victory in grand style.
Among Mullins’ numerous entries, the likes of Arkle hero Gaelic Warrior and former Champion Chase winner El Fabiolo stand out. They are likely to face off against Nicky Henderson’s Jonbon in the Grade 1 bet365 Celebration Chase. Easy Game, Bachasson, James Du Berlais, Asterion Forlonge, and Appreciate It are also entered in the Grade 2 Oaksey Chase. The latter is also in the Celebration Chase alongside Gaelic Warrior and El Fabiolo, along with Saint Sam and Dysart Dynamo. Irish Grand National third Minella Cocooner is also in the running for the bet365 Gold Cup, along with Nick Rockett and Aime Desjy. Other notable entries include Impaire Et Passe and Sir Gerhard in the Grade 2 Select Hurdle, and Captain Cody in the bet365 Handicap Hurdle.
Mullins’ forecast odds-on shots include Dr Eggman at Perth and Daddy Long Legs at Ludlow. However, some of his top horses will be held back for next week’s Punchestown Festival. Nevertheless, bookmakers are certain that Mullins will emerge victorious in the trainers’ title race, leaving Skelton and Paul Nicholls trailing behind.
