The Witcher Spin-Off on Hold; Filmed Footage May Be Used in Season 4
Previous reports suggested that The Witcher would expand its universe on Netflix with a spin-off centered around The Rats, a group of young troublemakers who crossed paths with Ciri in the finale of season 2. However, recent developments indicate that those plans have been put on hold.
According to Redanian Intelligence, a website with a proven track record of accurate Witcher scoops, the initially planned filming schedule for six to eight episodes of the spin-off has been significantly reduced to just “one or two.” The report suggests that Netflix opted not to proceed with a full season after reviewing the early footage.
As a result, the spin-off focusing on The Rats is now “most likely” to be incorporated into The Witcher season 4 in the form of flashbacks. The group made their debut in the season 3 finale, where they came to Ciri’s aid after she was captured by mercenaries.
In related news, it was recently announced that The Witcher will be renewed for a fourth season. This announcement coincided with the release of the first official image of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, who will replace Henry Cavill in the role starting with season 4. Hemsworth is set to portray the iconic character for the next two seasons on Netflix.
