Meg Bennett, Award-Winning Soap Star, Dies at 75

Meg Bennett, an award-winning soap opera star, has passed away at the age of 75. The actress’s family announced recently that Meg died on April 11 after being diagnosed with cancer. Meg was best known for appearing in USA soap opera The Young and the Restless. She featured in 52 episodes from 1980 right through until 2020. She played the role of Julia Martin, partner to Victor Newman (Eric Braden). Meg also developed a career as a soap writer. When Julia Martin was being phased out of a storyline, show creator Bill Bell asked her to continue working for the show as one of the writers. “I’d been acting on the show for almost two years when this happened, so I knew the characters,’ she told Daily TV back in 1985. Life in the soap world also saw Meg play Allegra Montenegro in General Hospital. During her time writing for the show, Meg and her colleagues were awarded the Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team in 1995. She was also nominated for her work in episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful, as well as The Young and the Restless. The actress also portrayed Megan Richardson in the series Santa Barbara. Her time in the industry also saw her appear on Broadway playing Marty Maraschino in the initial run of Grease. Meg was born October 4, 1948. She grew up in Pasadena, California. At Northwestern University in Illinois, Meg studied drama. She has two stepdaughters, a brother and a sister as well as four grandchildren and was married to partner Robert Guza Jr for 19 years.
