Coachella organizers have been hit with a fine of around $28,000 (£22,585) due to Lana Del Rey’s set running 13 minutes over schedule at the Indio event on Friday, April 19. This is not the first time the festival has faced penalties for curfew violations, with the first weekend of the 2024 edition totaling an estimated $117,000 in fines.
Despite the setback, Coachella 2024 featured a star-studded lineup, including headliners Tyler, The Creator, Doja Cat, and Lana Del Rey. Other notable artists who performed at the festival included Blur, Ice Spice, Grimes, Sabrina Carpenter, and Lil Uzi Vert.
However, the festival was plagued by a series of sound issues during its opening weekend, affecting artists such as Lana Del Rey and Grimes. While weekend two seemed to fare better, Kid Cudi had to end his set early after breaking his foot while jumping offstage.
Despite the challenges, Coachella remains one of the most popular music festivals in the world. The festival’s energy, diversity, and lineup continue to attract large crowds year after year. It remains to be seen if the festival will adjust its lineup strategy in 2025 in response to waning excitement around Britpop acts and the increasing popularity of dance music.
