After initially expressing concerns about Mayor Justin Bibb exceeding the spending cap, Cleveland City Council has approved additional funds for lakefront planning. The council’s decision allows Field Operations, the planning firm responsible for the project, to receive $260,000 for work already completed in 2023. The firm may also receive up to $140,000 for additional work requested by Mayor Bibb in light of the Cleveland Browns’ threat to withdraw from the city’s existing lakefront plans. Council initially withheld approval due to concerns that the mayor had exceeded the council’s spending cap. However, with the council’s approval, Field Operations will be able to continue planning for the future of Cleveland’s lakefront.
