Apple Lowers Vision Pro Shipment Forecast Amid Market Concerns

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has drastically reduced its production plans for the Vision Pro headset in 2024. Originally expecting to ship between 700,000 and 800,000 units, the company has now revised its forecast down to a mere 400,000 to 450,000 units. This decision comes ahead of the Vision Pro’s launch in markets outside the United States, indicating a sharp decline in demand within the U.S. market, which has fallen short of expectations. As a result, Apple is expected to adopt a conservative approach to headset demand when the Vision Pro expands into additional countries.

Previously, Kuo had predicted that Apple would introduce the Vision Pro in new markets before the June Worldwide Developers Conference, suggesting its availability in other regions within the next month. However, recent developments indicate a potential delay in this launch.

Apple anticipates a further decline in Vision Pro shipments in 2025 compared to 2024, prompting the company to review and adjust its headset product roadmap. Kuo does not anticipate the release of a new Vision Pro model in 2025, contradicting an earlier report that suggested a modified version of the device would enter mass production late next year.

In a February report, Kuo stated that Apple was focused on enhancing the efficiency of its production and supply chain management, without significant changes to the product’s specifications or user experience. At the time, Kuo estimated that substantial updates to the Vision Pro would not emerge until 2027.

Kuo emphasizes that Apple must address key issues, including the lack of essential applications, pricing, and comfort, without compromising the user experience. The lackluster sales of the Vision Pro are anticipated to hinder the growth of pancake lenses and the adoption of microOLED display technology in compact consumer electronics.
