Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has rubbished allegations made by the BJP that the Congress party plans to appropriate women’s gold and ‘mangalsutras’ (sacred necklaces). She maintained that the Congress has been in power for 55 years since India’s independence, and no such attempts have ever been made.
Gandhi further highlighted the sacrifices made by her grandmother, Indira Gandhi, who donated her gold to the nation during the war. She emphasized that she cannot understand the struggles of women.
Gandhi’s remarks come in response to recent statements made by BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who have accused the Congress of planning to confiscate women’s gold and ‘mangalsutras’. The BJP has also launched a campaign called ‘Save Our Mangalsutra’ in an attempt to mobilize support against the Congress.
Gandhi’s denial of these allegations is likely to further intensify the ongoing political battle between the Congress and the BJP ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in several states.
