Islamabad High Court Unanimously Decides Institutional Response to Judicial Affairs Interference

The Islamabad High Court (IHC), in a landmark move, has unanimously decided to establish an institutional response to any interference in the court’s affairs. The decision was reached during a full court meeting chaired by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq. The move comes in response to a letter written by six IHC judges to the Supreme Judicial Council, alleging interference in judicial affairs by intelligence agencies. The Supreme Court had subsequently initiated suo motu proceedings and sought suggestions from various stakeholders. In accordance with the Supreme Court’s directive, the IHC registrar’s office solicited suggestions from the judges to counter the alleged meddling. During the full court meeting, all the judges unanimously agreed to provide an institutional response to such interference. A draft containing the proposals will be prepared and submitted to the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The IHC registrar’s office has also issued a statement confirming the full court meeting and the unanimous stance on the matter. The IHC’s institutional response aims to address and prevent any future attempts of interference in the judicial process, ensuring the independence and integrity of the court.
