Soccer star David Beckham is suing F45 Training, a fitness brand co-owned by actor Mark Wahlberg, for allegedly failing to uphold its end of a promotional contract. According to court documents cited by The New York Times, Beckham’s lawyers argue that the company did not provide him with the substantial cash and equity compensation it had promised him. Beckham claims that when F45’s business began to dip in 2022, it held on to the millions of dollars it owed him. The lawsuit alleges that Beckham was supposed to receive almost 1 million shares of stock, plus $5 million of extra shares. However, he claims that when the company went public, its valuation was about three times what it had been two years prior, before Beckham’s involvement. Beckham is now seeking more than $14 million in damages, not including interest. F45’s lawyers have rebutted Beckham’s claims in court documents, saying he did not carry out all of his duties and is attempting to benefit from his own wrongdoing. F45 has been embroiled in legal controversy before. In 2017, former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens sued the company for allegedly failing to pay him the agreed-upon compensation for promoting its gyms. The outcome of that case is unclear.
