Kai Havertz and Ben White each scored a brace as Arsenal demolished a hapless Chelsea 5-0 on Tuesday, securing their biggest league win over their London rivals.
Leandro Trossard gave Arsenal an early lead in the fourth minute, before White doubled their advantage in the 52nd. Havertz then added two goals in quick succession, in the 57th and 65th minutes respectively, to put the game beyond Chelsea’s reach. White capped off the rout with a fortuitous second goal in the 70th minute.
Arsenal’s victory sees them move three points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League standings. Chelsea, meanwhile, have now lost two consecutive matches and appear to be in disarray under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Havertz’s goals against his former club were a particular highlight, and the German international was a constant threat to the Chelsea defense throughout the match. White also impressed, scoring two goals and putting in a solid defensive performance.
Chelsea’s defeat will raise further questions about Pochettino’s ability to turn the team’s fortunes around. The Blues have now lost five of their last seven matches in all competitions and are in danger of missing out on a top-four finish.
For Arsenal, the victory will be a huge boost to their confidence as they look to challenge for the Premier League title. The Gunners have now won four consecutive league matches and are in a strong position to maintain their lead at the top of the table.
