ESPN’s Packers Draft Pick: Iowa Cornerback Cooper DeJean

ESPN’s latest mock draft, conducted by its NFL Nation reporters, projects the Green Bay Packers to select Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean with the 25th overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. The pick has garnered support from ESPN analysts, who highlight DeJean’s versatility and ability to play multiple positions in the secondary. However, former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum expressed reservations about the pick, arguing that the Packers have more pressing needs at other positions, particularly left tackle. Tannenbaum believes that protecting quarterback Jordan Love and solidifying the offensive line should be the team’s top priority. DeJean, a standout performer at Iowa, boasts an impressive collegiate career with 120 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, three defensive touchdowns, and 20 pass breakups. He has a knack for creating turnovers and disrupting opposing offenses. Despite the need for cornerback talent in Green Bay, Tannenbaum maintains that left tackle remains a more crucial position to address. He suggests that the Packers consider selecting Arizona State’s Jordan Morgan to fill that role. The 2024 NFL Draft will commence on Thursday night in Detroit, with live coverage on both ABC and ESPN.
