Eze Deserves Euro 2024 Call-Up, Says Glasner

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has expressed his belief that Eberechi Eze deserves to be called up to England’s squad for Euro 2024, following UEFA’s decision to expand the squad size from 23 to 26 players. Eze, who has represented England at youth level and earned two senior caps, has been in impressive form for Palace this season, scoring eight goals and registering five assists in 27 appearances. Despite being courted by the Nigerian Football Association in 2019, Eze opted to continue representing England. Glasner believes that Eze’s performances this season warrant a place in Southgate’s squad for the European Championships. “He would deserve being nominated for the Euros,” Glasner said. “It’s Gareth Southgate’s decision, [but] I know Ebs. I see all his qualities – how hard he works in training and how he listens to our support when we tell him that he can maybe improve positionally or with the defending. I believe he deserves it, but I don’t know every other player who plays in the same position.” However, Glasner acknowledged that Southgate needs to consider the balance of the squad when making his selections. “When you nominate 26 players, it’s not so good to nominate 26 offensive players. Maybe they all deserve it because they are fantastic players, but you need a balance in the team. Gareth Southgate will nominate the best one.”
