Tragic Crash of Douglas C-54 Skymaster near Fairbanks
A Douglas C-54 Skymaster aircraft met with an unfortunate fate on Tuesday, crashing into the Tanana River near the city of Fairbanks in Alaska. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the presence of two individuals on board, but their current conditions remain shrouded in uncertainty.
The C-54 Skymaster is the military variant of the renowned Douglas DC-4, a widely recognized aircraft from the World War II era. The website airlines.net indicates that during its peak, the DC-4 typically accommodated 44 passengers in standard seating configurations, although most have since been repurposed as freighters.
According to a statement issued by the Alaska State Troopers, who initially identified the crashed plane as a DC-4, members of the public are advised to refrain from approaching the crash site. John Dougherty, a spokesperson for the troopers, declined to provide further details, directing inquiries to the aforementioned statement.
Efforts to reach the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) for more information have not yet yielded a response. The NTSB, in collaboration with the FAA, will lead the investigation into the incident, with the NTSB assuming the primary role.
