Elon Musk’s X has appealed the dismissal of its lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), which accused X of allowing hate speech to proliferate on Twitter. X filed a notice of appeal to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday.
U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer in San Francisco dismissed X’s case on March 25, concluding that the lawsuit was an attempt to silence CCDH’s criticism and retaliate against their protected speech. Despite Musk’s self-proclaimed commitment to free speech, X claimed that CCDH’s research had negatively impacted advertising revenue, resulting in losses of tens of millions of dollars.
Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion in 2022. He is currently ranked as the third-wealthiest individual in the world by Forbes magazine and is also the CEO of Tesla, a leading manufacturer of electric vehicles. The appeal process is expected to take several months or longer.
