In a recent development, the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SSO) released a video showcasing their successful destruction of a Russian T-72 tank and other military equipment in the Donetsk region of Ukraine. The video, shared on the SSO’s Facebook and Telegram accounts, depicts the meticulous execution of a drone strike that eliminated 11 Russian soldiers.
The Donetsk region has been the site of ongoing intense battles, with Russian forces relentlessly targeting the town of Chasiv Yar. However, the Ukrainian military has exhibited remarkable resilience in countering these advances. The SSO’s drone footage provides irrefutable evidence of their combat prowess, showcasing the precision strike that obliterated the T-72 tank, a formidable asset valued at millions of dollars.
In addition to the tank, the Ukrainian forces also destroyed a 2S6 ‘Tunguska’ anti-aircraft missile gun complex and an armored combat vehicle. The SSO attributed the success of this mission to the tactical expertise of the ‘Medoyid’ tactical group of the 3rd regiment, who employed first-person view (FPV) drones to execute the assault.
While Newsweek has not independently verified the authenticity of the video, the Russian Ministry of Defense has been contacted for comment. Nonetheless, the footage released by the SSO serves as a testament to the effectiveness of Ukrainian SOF combat UAV operators and the growing number of Russian assets destroyed by their drones.
In a similar incident earlier this month, the SSO reported the destruction of two Russian tanks, including a T-72 and a T-90, also in the Donetsk region. The T-90 is considered a modern Russian main battle tank, with an export value ranging from approximately $2.5 to $4.3 million depending on its level of modernization.
These successful drone strikes by the Ukrainian forces underscore their unwavering determination to resist the Russian invasion.
