In a significant move, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Mayawati has pledged to work towards the creation of a separate Western U.P. State, encompassing districts of the region, and the establishment of an Allahabad High Court Bench in Meerut. Addressing an election rally in Meerut, Mayawati emphasized the need for a separate state to facilitate the region’s development and fulfill its long-standing demand.
Mayawati, a former four-time Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, highlighted that the BSP had passed a resolution in the U.P. Assembly and forwarded it to the Center, but no action had been taken. She asserted that if the BSP were to come to power at the Center, the region would be granted separate statehood.
Furthermore, Mayawati pledged to fulfill the region’s demand for a High Court Bench in Meerut. She expressed her commitment to taking positive steps towards this longstanding demand, while criticizing the Center for neglecting the issue. Mayawati also accused the BJP and other parties of fostering social division and implementing policies that have led to unemployment, backwardness, poverty, and migration. She presented the BSP, with its focus on Dalit rights, as a beacon of hope amidst these challenges.
It is noteworthy that the BSP, once a dominant political force in Uttar Pradesh, has witnessed a decline in recent times and is contesting the upcoming polls independently. Mayawati’s latest promises aim to revitalize the party’s support base and address pressing concerns of the marginalized sections in Western U.P. The outcome of her efforts remains to be seen, but her commitment to these causes is likely to shape the region’s political landscape in the coming months.
