The NBA playoffs may be in full swing, but individual excellence deserves recognition too. On Tuesday night, the league honored Tyrese Maxey of the Philadelphia 76ers with the coveted George Mikan trophy for Most Improved Player (MIP) for the 2023-24 season.
Maxey, the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has emerged as a key player for the Sixers, especially in the wake of the James Harden trade. His role expanded further when Joel Embiid sustained a knee injury, and he consistently delivered whenever called upon.
This season, Maxey shattered his previous career-best numbers, averaging an impressive 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and a steal per game in 37.5 minutes of action. His outstanding performance earned him the MIP award over Chicago Bulls guard Coby White and Houston Rockets big man Alperen Sengun, with Maxey narrowly edging out White in the voting.
Maxey’s recognition is a testament to his hard work and dedication, and he can now turn his full attention to the Sixers’ upcoming Game 3 clash against the New York Knicks on Thursday night.
