Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) has secured the Republican nomination in Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District, triumphing over anti-abortion advocate Mark Houck in the primary contest. Houck had been previously charged with assaulting a Planned Parenthood escort but was later acquitted of the accusations. The 1st Congressional District comprises areas north of Philadelphia, encompassing Bucks and Montgomery counties. Notably, the district voted in favor of President Biden by over 4.5% in 2020, highlighting its competitive nature. Fitzpatrick will now face Democratic contender Ashley Ehasz in the general election, a rematch of their previous encounter where he emerged victorious by nearly 10 percentage points. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report predicts that Fitzpatrick’s seat is ‘likely Republican.’
