Yankees Edge Athletics 4-3 Behind Stanton, Rizzo in First-Inning Surge

The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics 4-3 on Tuesday night, extending their recent winning streak to four games. The victory was propelled by a strong start from Marcus Stroman and key hits from Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo.

Stroman, making his second start for the Yankees, pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. He struck out a season-high nine batters and played a crucial role in limiting the Athletics’ offense. The Yankees’ bullpen then took over and shut down Oakland over the final 3 2/3 innings, with Clay Holmes earning his ninth save of the season.

Oakland had taken an early lead in the first inning when Seth Brown doubled to drive in Brent Rooker. However, the Yankees responded swiftly in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on a double by Stanton and a home run by Rizzo. Rizzo added another run for New York in the second inning with a solo homer.

The Athletics narrowed the deficit to 4-3 on solo homers by Shea Langeliers and Lawrence Butler, but that would be all the offense they could muster. The Yankees’ bullpen held strong, with Ron Marinaccio, Caleb Ferguson, Dennis Santana, and Holmes combining to retire the final 12 Oakland batters in order.

With the win, the Yankees improved to 21-14 on the season and moved into a tie for first place in the American League East. The Athletics, meanwhile, fell to 16-19 and remain in fourth place in the American League West.
