Richard Riakporhe has sent a menacing message to Chris Billam-Smith, vowing to be a ‘salivating Hyena’ in their upcoming WBO world cruiserweight title fight. The eagerly anticipated rematch, set for June 15 at Selhurst Park, will see the pair square off for the second time after Riakporhe’s split decision victory in their initial clash in 2019.
Billam-Smith, who captured the title with a majority decision win over Lawrence Okolie in May 2023, will be making the first defense of his crown against Riakporhe, who has an unblemished professional record of 17-0. Riakporhe, who secured his title shot with a 13th knockout win over Dylan Bregeon in December, has made no secret of his intentions to dethrone Billam-Smith.
“I’m going to emotionlessly batter you on the 15th of June and your time is coming to an end,” Riakporhe declared. “The Midnight Train is going to prevail.”
Billam-Smith, for his part, has remained composed in the face of Riakporhe’s verbal barrage, insisting that he is a much-improved fighter since their first encounter.
“Much different fighter now, different person, it’s finally on and I’m excited,” said Billam-Smith. “I’m improved in all areas. My boxing, physicality, mindset, I’m a completely different fighter and person now.”
The stage is set for an explosive rematch between two of the cruiserweight division’s most formidable contenders. Riakporhe, with his relentless aggression and knockout power, will be looking to make a statement against Billam-Smith, who will be determined to prove that his title reign is no fluke.
The June 15 clash at Selhurst Park promises to be a captivating spectacle, with the WBO world cruiserweight title hanging in the balance and the potential for fireworks in the ring.
