Under the creative direction of Matthieu Blazy, Bottega Veneta has partnered with Italian furniture company Cassina to reimagine Le Corbusier’s iconic LC14 Tabouret. This collaboration celebrates the enduring legacy of the modernist master while showcasing Bottega Veneta’s commitment to elevating everyday objects through exquisite craftsmanship.
Le Corbusier, renowned for his avant-garde approach to architecture and design, first discovered the LC14 Tabouret as a discarded Scottish whisky crate on the beach near his experimental Cabanon home. Recognizing its potential, he reworked the found object into a new version in 1952, embodying his belief in the transformative power of design.
Blazy, whose work is characterized by its elevated take on everyday objects and its exploration of themes such as travel and worldliness, finds particular resonance in the LC14 Tabouret. He sees it as a symbol of the postwar era’s commitment to functional yet expressive living spaces, a philosophy that aligns with Bottega Veneta’s own design heritage.
This special edition of the LC14 Tabouret encapsulates the essence of the original while introducing unique elements that speak to Bottega Veneta’s identity. One version features scorch marks on the wood, inspired by centuries-old Japanese techniques. The other showcases the brand’s signature Intreccio foulard technique, where vibrant colors are woven into the leather and then encased in black, creating a beguiling interplay between color, non-color, and craft.
The collaboration between Bottega Veneta and Cassina is a testament to their shared appreciation for timeless design and exceptional craftsmanship. It is an homage to Le Corbusier’s legacy and a celebration of the enduring power of creativity to transform everyday objects into works of art.
