Senior’s Safety Concerns After Attempted Illegal Eviction

Asantewaa Nkrumah-Ture, a 64-year-old Philadelphia resident, was left shaken after an attempted illegal eviction from her home. Despite having lived there since the summer of 2019, she was given a 30-day notice to vacate in February 2022. The eviction order came out of the blue, and Nkrumah-Ture soon discovered that her landlord, Alvan Morrison, planned to move into the property. Just days after receiving the warning, Morrison reportedly appeared at her front door and pressured her to leave. The situation escalated when Kareem Terry, who claimed to be Morrison’s brother, allegedly entered the home and began throwing furniture around. Nkrumah-Ture expressed fears for her safety and installed a padlock on her door. She also revealed that she had friends sleeping over at the property for protection and had wedged a couch against the door to prevent anyone from entering. Nkrumah-Ture took time off work to guard her belongings and even shared photographs of herself wearing a bulletproof vest. She alleged that Morrison and Terry threatened to open fire inside the property and hurled insults at her and her friends.

To safeguard her rights, Nkrumah-Ture sought legal assistance and obtained a court order that allowed her to vacate the property within a 30-day window. She has since moved out but continues to feel the emotional impact of the ordeal. The incident highlights the importance of protecting tenants from illegal evictions and the need for landlords to adhere to proper legal procedures. Legal experts emphasize that tenants should not hesitate to seek legal assistance if their rights are being violated.
