Union Minister Anurag Thakur has joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi in denouncing the Congress party over comments made by its senior leader, Sam Pitroda. Thakur alleges that the Congress harbors a secret plan to impose an inheritance tax, effectively taxing citizens even after their death. “I think the djinn has come out of the bottle,” Thakur remarked, accusing the Congress of being “anti-sanatan” and now “anti-santan” (anti-descendants). He further asserted that the Congress’s “hidden agenda” is now exposed, claiming that even posthumously, the party intends to extort citizens, leaving their children vulnerable in a Congress-led government. This controversy stems from Pitroda’s comments regarding inheritance tax in the United States, which he deemed an intriguing concept that could foster debate. He noted that individuals with substantial wealth at the time of their demise can only transfer a portion to their children, with the remainder going to the government. Pitroda suggested that this could be a fair approach, contrasting it with the absence of such a tax in India. He emphasized the need for public discourse on such issues. Prime Minister Modi has also highlighted this issue, alleging that if the Congress regains power, it will introduce inheritance tax in India, redistributing personal wealth to “infiltrators” and seizing women’s mangalsutras. Modi further claimed that the Congress’s mantra is “loot during your lifetime, loot after your death,” implying that the party aims to burden citizens with high taxation while they are alive and inheritance tax after their passing.
