Man Critically Injured in Stockport Car Crash
A man is in critical condition following a car crash in Stockport on Sunday night.
The 56-year-old man was hit by a vehicle at the junction of St Matthew’s Road and Old Chapel Street in Edgeley at around 10.10pm.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, where the man was taken to hospital in critical condition.
A 41-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.
The incident is currently being investigated by Greater Manchester Police.
Residents who live near the junction described hearing the “screeching” of a vehicle at around 10.10pm last night (April 23). They said they rushed outside to see a man lying “face down on the floor”.

The road was reportedly cordoned off for several hours overnight as residents recalled seeing “multiple” police vehicles and an ambulance.
Another neighbor says there have been “many” incidents at the junction, including a car ploughing into the brick wall next to the cross-over as well as her parked car being hit by another vehicle.
“I heard screeching and that’s not unusual around here. The streets are used as a rat run and many drivers race through here dangerously.
“It’s a notorious junction, we’ve had people plough into the brick wall just off from it – even my own car when parked was collided with. There was a commotion and cordon with multiple police cars before they left in the morning around 6am. It’s a really dangerous junction.”
Police believe a Kia Ceed was travelling south along St Matthew’s Road, with the driver planning on turning right onto Old Chapel Street. But as the driver looked to park on Old Chapel Street, the car hit the man.
Any witnesses are being urged to contact Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU). Officers also want to speak to anyone who has dash cam, doorbell or CCTV footage from the lead-up to the crash.
