Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter Docuseries Set for May Premiere

Following the success of the Nickelodeon-focused docuseries ‘Quiet on Set,’ Investigation Discovery and Max are teaming up for another high-profile unscripted deep dive, this time centered around the controversy-tethered pop star siblings Nick and Aaron Carter. The four-part docuseries, titled ‘Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter,’ will air across two successive nights: Monday, May 27, and Tuesday, May 28 at 9:00 p.m. ET on ID and Max.

The project will delve into the brothers’ fraught relationship, which has been heavily strained in recent years, as well as their respective rapid rises to the top of the pop culture zeitgeist and their subsequent declines in popularity. More specifically, ‘Fallen Idols’ will explore the 2022 sexual assault accusations and lawsuit against Nick Carter, stemming from Dream singer and actress Melissa Schuman’s initial 2017 allegations, as well as other similar claims made by other women. At the time of the accusations, Aaron Carter, who had been facing his own controversies involving substance abuse and mental health issues, chose to side with his brother’s accusers, further exacerbating the rift between the siblings and lasting until Aaron Carter’s untimely death in November 2022.

To provide diverse perspectives, the docuseries will feature interviews with Nick Carter’s three accusers – Melissa Schuman, Ashley Repp, and Shay Ruth – who will share their insights and experiences regarding their allegations against the Backstreet Boys member. They will also discuss the backlash they faced after going public with their claims.

Additionally, the four-parter will include a yet-to-be-identified member of the Carter family, as well as Aaron Carter’s former fiancé Melanie Martin and Nick Carter’s ex-girlfriend Kaya Jones. Both Martin and Jones will offer their personal takes on the role of fame and public scrutiny in the brothers’ relationship and eventual falling out.

Beyond the specific case of the Carter brothers, ‘Fallen Idols’ will also serve as a broader exploration of the darker aspects of achieving fame and fortune, particularly in an era where social media and public opinion can make seeking justice for victims of abuse a complex and challenging process.

Whether or not ‘Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter’ will generate the same level of buzz as ‘Quiet on Set’ remains to be seen, but it is likely to attract viewers who are curious about the brothers’ lives and the controversies that have surrounded them. The first trailer for the project has already been released, providing a glimpse into the upcoming docuseries. Episodes one and two of ‘Fallen Idols’ will premiere on Investigation Discovery and Max on Monday, May 27, with the third and fourth installments airing on Tuesday, May 28 at 9:00 p.m.
