Amidst a week-long protest at Columbia University in New York City, US Speaker of the House visited the campus and faced boos and interruptions from pro-Palestinian demonstrators. More than 100 students participating in the protest have been arrested by riot police and suspended by the university after reports of antisemitic incidents during the demonstrations. School officials, lawmakers, and student protesters have condemned the incidents, alleging that outside groups are responsible for inciting anti-Semitism. Despite the disruptions, the Speaker met with a group of Jewish students on Wednesday afternoon. However, his subsequent press conference was repeatedly interrupted by protesters who booed, shouted slogans in support of Palestine, and demanded that he leave the campus. The protests come amid ongoing tensions over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with supporters of the Palestinian cause calling for an end to Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
