Amy Olson, a 31-year-old professional golfer, announced her retirement from the LPGA Tour on Wednesday. The announcement came after a 10-year journey on the LPGA Tour, where she achieved notable success. Olson’s decision to retire stems from her desire to focus on her family and explore new opportunities.
Olson, a native of Oxbow, North Dakota, turned professional after setting an NCAA-record with 20 titles at North Dakota State University. Despite not securing a win on the LPGA Tour, she had a remarkable career, highlighted by 13 top-10 finishes, including a tie for second at the 2021 Kia Classic and the 2018 Evian Championship.
Reflecting on her career, Olson expressed gratitude for the experiences she gained and the perspective she developed on the importance of balancing golf with life’s other priorities. She acknowledged that while she had aspirations that remained unfulfilled, such as winning on the tour and playing on the U.S. Solheim Cup team, she is content with the path her career took.
Olson’s final appearance on the LPGA Tour was in July 2023 at the U.S. Women’s Open, where she participated while seven months pregnant. She missed the cut but cherished the opportunity to compete at such a high level under unique circumstances.
As Olson embarks on the next chapter of her life, she is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. She expressed her appreciation for the support she received throughout her career and acknowledged that while competitive golf may be behind her, her passion for the sport will continue.
