Free Events and Fundraisers in Kane County

Residents of Kane County have the opportunity to participate in numerous free events and fundraisers throughout the upcoming weeks.

Starting with the distribution of free wood chips at two forest preserves. From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, individuals can pick up free wood chips at Burnidge Forest Preserve in Elgin and Big Rock Forest Preserve in Big Rock. The wood chips are derived from hardwood trees that have been removed due to storm damage or clearing efforts. The Kane County Forest Preserve District staff will be present to assist with loading the chips into vehicles.

Next, on Sunday, June 2, the Elgin Valley Fox Trot will be held, a popular running event organized by the Kenyon Farms Runners and the Elgin Lions clubs. The race consists of a 10-mile race starting at 7:30 a.m. and a 5K race starting at 7:40 a.m. Both races incorporate sections of the Fox River Trail and the Judson University campus. Registration fees vary depending on the race distance and age group, with an increase in cost after April 30th. The post-race festivities include an awards ceremony, music, food, drinks, massages, vendor exhibits, and a beer tent.

On May 2, the second annual Inn Recovery Spring Fundraiser will take place at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles. The event, which supports the Kane County Specialty Courts Foundation, will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees can expect a meal prepared by Inn Recovery students, musical entertainment, a silent auction, and a raffle. Tickets are available for purchase online, and further details about the Kane County Specialty Courts can be found on their website.

Lastly, Centro de Información will host its second annual Centro de Mayo event on May 5 at their Elgin office. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the celebration will feature a taco truck offering free tacos to the first 100 guests, piñatas, presentations by Centro teams, and a drum circle led by members of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.
