A 40-year-old man from Thane, Maharashtra, has been detained by the police for allegedly practicing and claiming to possess the ability to combat ‘evil spirits.’ According to reports, a woman from Kisan Nagar approached the Thane man seeking assistance for her frequently ill daughter. Despite eight visits to the accused for therapy, her daughter’s condition remained unchanged. It is reported that the accused had advised the woman to bring her daughter and other family members to a crematorium where he would perform rituals to rid them of so-called ‘evil spirits.’ The fee for this service was set at Rs 5,000.
Upon reaching the designated spot, the woman discovered the presence of six to eight other individuals, all seeking to be liberated from ‘evil spirits’ by this conman. The villagers became suspicious of his activities and apprehended him, subsequently handing him over to the police. He has been charged under the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil, and Aghori Practices Act.
Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to such fraudulent individuals. Instead, it is advisable to seek medical attention or counseling from qualified professionals when faced with health concerns. The villagers’ quick thinking in identifying the man’s deception and reporting him to the authorities is commendable. It serves as a reminder that communities must work together to expose and combat such fraudulent practices.
Unfortunately, con artists often target vulnerable individuals who are desperate for solutions. It is crucial to resist the allure of miracle cures, magical remedies, and superstitious beliefs. Such practices can lead to financial exploitation and further distress. Instead, individuals should prioritize seeking evidence-based treatments and support from reputable sources.
